Joe Hovde scraped thousands of Amazon and Goodreads reviews to find the books most often called “life-changing.”
The winner? Not a classic. Not a bestseller.
A 1991 self-help book called Healing Back Pain, claiming that most physical pain is caused by repressed emotion.
What makes a book “life-changing” anyway?
Timing? Belief? Desperation?
It’s rarely the beautiful ones. It’s often the weird, direct, slightly embarrassing ones.
The ones that feel like they showed up just for you.
Some other high-scorers:
Autobiography of a Yogi
The Four Agreements
Remembering Wholeness (19% called it life-changing out of only 79 reviews)
The Snow Leopard (Zen + CIA + Nepal)
Do these books change lives?
Or do we find them at the exact moment we’re ready to be changed?
